3, Cupping and Scraping in the Thai Tradition
Traditional Thai Massage is part of a larger body of medicine known
as Traditional Thai Medicine. There are multiple techniques used by
traditional Thai massage practitioners to help release toxins, imbalances
and pain/ discomfort from various levels of tissues, in particular
layers of muscle and connective tissue. The techniques presented in

Acupuncture. Liniments are massaged into the affected region; cupping

4. Thai Back-Walking and “Hands-Off” Massage
Thai Back-Walking and “Hands-Off” Massage is of equal
benefit to client and therapist. Some therapists find that due to
poor massage techniques or over-use, their thumbs and hands are tired,
sore, and possibly injured, yet they still need to work. Learning
these techniques and this sequencing allows therapists to give a deep
massage without the need to use their hands directly for acupressure.
Therapists can address bound musculature with confident strength without
putting their hands at-risk. Clients benefit from the use of the therapist’s
feet, forearms, elbows and whole body with a massage that is deeply
grounding and releasing. Pressure is often deeper in this massage
yet more diffuse, allowing more receptivity from the client’s
body. Yet, with skilful use of the elbow and toes, pressure can also
be specifically directed allowing for a more penetrating touch.
You will learn
- Introduction to background and basic concepts in Thai medicine
and Thai massage
- Introduction to anatomy in the Thai tradition – Sen lines,
elements, Lom and energy flow
- Benefits to client and therapist of back-walking and “no-hands”
- 4 Principles of Thai Massage – how energy moves and how
(and why) we sequence the massage
- Learning the techniques and movements for a 1 hour+ massage
- Closing questions and answers

The
Foundations of Yogatherapy Certificate Program (FYT) introduces students
to the philosophy, therapeutic principles and techniques of yoga and
provides them with 40 hours of recognized Yoga Teacher Training.
Yoga has a depth of practice that extends much further than physical
postures, and is not limited to those who are flexible or mobile.
The practices of breath, cultivating focus and awareness through meditation
and lifestyle, and the application of the eastern understandings of
health, well-being and disease all work together to create a model
of yoga that is both therapeutic as well as enriching. Yogatherapy
is the application of the techniques and philosophy of yoga to support
the healing and well-being of clients on all levels.
The
Foundations of Yogatherapy Certificate Program is for students who
have an interest in using all aspects of yoga in a therapeutic context.
Students gain comprehensive knowledge and practical skill in the 8
limbs of yoga. They know how to identify various imbalances in the
systems (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and energetic), determine
the causes of imbalances according to the yogic model, and treat these
imbalances through the application of techniques and principles of
Yogatherapy.
You may enroll in the Diploma of Eastern Therapies
and Bodywork (ETB: a 4-semester program that provides
in-depth training in the disciplines of Traditional Thai Massage,
Ayurvedic Marmatherapy and Yogatherapy.) or The Diploma
of Yogatherapy (DYT: a 1270-hour in-depth of Yogatherapy

PCTIA
The Fundamentals
of Ayurvedic Marmatherapy Certificate Program (FAM) introduces students
to the philosophies, therapeutic principles and techniques of Ayurvedic
Marmatherapy. The foundation of Ayurveda rests in the principles,
energies, rhythms and movements of life and nature. As a science,
Ayurveda is a study of life in its wholeness, observing living beings
in their interactions with their environment. Ayurveda draws on natural
therapies and lifestyle practices including diet, herbs, lifestyle,
environment, spiritual practices and bodywork.
The Fundamentals
of Ayurvedic Marmatherapy Certificate Program is ideal
for students who have an interest in offering hands-on healing
as an augment to current skills in bodywork, or as a profession
on its own. Students gain a working knowledge of Ayurveda at the basic
and intermediate levels. They learn the physical and energy systems
according to the Ayurvedic model, including the Marma points. Students
also learn how to identify injuries, illnesses and imbalances in the
Marma, including their associated systems and organs, and have a working
knowledge of the various ways to treat the Marma using massage, energy
healing, external application of herbs, hot and cold therapies, compress
therapies, oil therapies and subtle techniques.
